Welcome to Exploring the Moon in the 21st Century:
Undergraduate Research on Lunar Evolution and Exploration
In conjunction with the National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site at Brown’s University Dept. of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences (DEEPS) and the Leadership Alliance at Brown University, we offer summer research experiences for undergraduates. More information on the program is available here.
- What processes have shaped the Moon’s surface over billions of years, and what can they tell us about the origin and evolution of the Moon?
- How does the Moon’s internal structure influence its interactions with the surface and the formation of lunar craters?
- What are the key geological differences between the Moon and other celestial bodies in our solar system?
- What resources are available at the Moon for human exploration?
Come to Brown University this summer to immerse yourself in groundbreaking lunar research and tackle these and other lunar science inquiries!
Our 9-week internships offer:
- Hands-on research experience, guided by Brown faculty within a supportive academic environment;
- A $5400 stipend;
- Complimentary housing in a Brown dormitory and covered round-trip travel expenses;
- Professional growth opportunities, including guidance on graduate school and career paths;
- Social gatherings and networking events;
- The prospect of presenting your research at the Lunar Research Alliance National Symposium and the Summer Research Symposium at Brown, with the potential to showcase your findings at a major lunarĀ and planetary science conference.
We strongly encourage applications from undergraduates from diverse backgrounds, including those traditionally underrepresented in the sciences, such as individuals of Black, Latinx/Hispanic, Indigenous, and underrepresented minority backgrounds; women; first-generation college students; individuals with disabilities; and those who have faced financial challenges. Our program embraces students of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and life experiences, including veterans.
We welcome undergraduate applicants from a wide range of STEM disciplines, including lunar science, planetary science, geology, astronomy, physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, biology, and computer science.
In 2024, our program will run from June 3 to August 2.
